Canonical question: How do you brief recommenders so they produce useful letters instead of generic praise?

Expected output: A recommender brief that assigns one proof job, one fact set, and one corroboration path.

TL;DR

很多推荐信变模板，不是因为推荐人不够强，而是因为 brief 太烂。

下文把 proof brief 和 proof job 当成 internal planning shorthand，用来分配每位 recommender 的主要证明任务。它们不是 USCIS 术语，也不是当前 /app/case/recommendations 里的固定字段名。

好的 recommender brief 至少要告诉对方三件事：

你为什么找他
你希望他证明哪条 fact
这条 fact 可以被什么材料 corroborate

如果你已经开始找推荐人，但内心其实只会说 “能不能帮我写一封强一点的信”，那你现在就在把 RL 送进模板化轨道。

推荐人不会替你做 case design。

What USCIS is actually evaluating

USCIS current guidance 对有用 letters 的判断很明确：

writer 要有 first-hand knowledge
内容要具体
要能说明 achievement / positioning / significance
最好有 independent evidence support

所以 recommender brief 的任务，不是帮写手“找感觉”，而是确保这四点真的落下来。

What users often get wrong

只给推荐人简历，不给 proof job。
让推荐人自己判断要讲什么。
试图让每封信都覆盖全案。
为了显得礼貌，不敢把要点讲具体。

How to judge your own case

给每位推荐人准备 brief 时，只回答 4 个问题：

你为什么找他，而不是找别人？
他能第一手证明哪条 fact？
这条 fact 与哪一个 prong 或 proof line 直接相关？
哪些 documents 可以帮他写得更具体、更可核查？

如果四个问题里有两个答不出来，这个 brief 还不能发。

What good evidence / framing looks like

好的 brief 往往很克制：

一页以内
一个主 proof job
具体 fact bullets
可附的 corroboration materials
明确不需要他写的内容

这样推荐人更容易写出 bounded、usable 的 letter。

Common pitfalls

一页 brief 里塞 20 个 achievements。
明明没有 first-hand basis，还要求对方讲 personal knowledge。
要求推荐人“尽量写强一点”，但不给可核查事实。
把 petition language 整段发给对方让他照抄。

After reading do this

先在 app 外做一页 recommender brief worksheet，给每位 referrer 指定 1 个 main proof job。
回到 /app/case/recommendations，只录入当前产品真正支持的 referrer 信息、endorsed materials 和 draft workflow；不要把“proof job”误解成现成字段。
把 supporting documents 一起准备好，不要只发简历和 petition draft。
